Golden Eagle Luxury Trains - Treasures of the East - Journey Map

Begin your adventure with a stay in vibrant Saigon, including a thrilling speedboat ride to the historic Cu Chi Tunnels for a glimpse into Vietnam’s resilient spirit. After exploring the city, board the Vietnam Express and journey north to wander Hoi An’s lantern-lit streets, drift through the tranquil waterways of Ninh Binh and discover its dramatic karst landscapes by jeep. A private cruise through the unspoiled beauty of Ha Long Bay offers an unforgettable escape, while Hanoi’s Old Quarter immerses you in the country’s timeless rhythm.

Switching to the Silk Road Express in China, watch the landscapes shift as you cruise Guilin’s emerald Lijiang River, stroll Guangzhou’s historic Shamian Island and savour its famed dim sum. Discover the porcelain artistry of Jingdezhen — even create your own ceramic keepsake — before ending your journey in dazzling Shanghai with afternoon tea atop the soaring Shanghai Tower and a sunset yacht cruise along the Huangpu River.

Along the way, enjoy gourmet dining, private cruises, enriching off-train tours, and the comfort of your rolling boutique hotel — all limited to just 60 guests.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Saigon

Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where comfort and relaxation awaits. Take some time to unwind before joining your fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception Dinner, offering a perfect introduction to Vietnam’s culinary heritage and a chance to connect with new friends.

Day 2 | Saigon

Begin your day in Saigon (formerly Ho Chi Minh City) with time to relax at your hotel, or join a morning speedboat excursion to the historic Cu Chi Tunnels — an underground network once used by Viet Cong fighters.

Enjoy lunch en route before returning for a guided city tour, visiting landmarks like the Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Presidential Palace and War Remnants Museum.

Pause for local street coffee and a short Vietnamese lesson, then soak up the lively atmosphere of Nguyen Hue Walking Street in the evening. For a special cultural experience, you may choose to see the A O Show at the Saigon Opera House before returning to your hotel.

Day 3 | Saigon + Vietnam Express

Today begins at leisure in the heart of Saigon. Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at the Park Hyatt before taking time to unwind or explore at your own pace — perhaps a gentle stroll through the city’s buzzing boulevards to soak up its vibrant atmosphere.

In the afternoon, board the Vietnam Express train and settle in for a gourmet lunch as the train begins its journey north toward Hoi An.

Day 4 | Da Nang to Hoi An

Step off your train in Da Nang and immerse yourself in the cultural richness of central Vietnam with two unforgettable options.

Option one: Discover Hoi An’s lantern-lit streets on a guided walking tour, exploring ancient merchant houses, temples, the Japanese Covered Bridge and the bustling market. Cruise the Thu Bon River to Thanh Ha Pottery Village for a hands-on pottery session, then create your own silk lantern — a symbol of Hoi An’s charm.

Option two: Venture into the forested valley of My Son, a sacred Hindu site and former spiritual heart of the Champa Kingdom. Wander among crumbling Shiva temples and intricate carvings, then enjoy a live Champa dance that brings this UNESCO World Heritage site to life.

Day 5 | Ninh Binh

Arriving in Ninh Binh, begin with a visit to Hoa Lu — Vietnam’s 10th and 11th-century capital — where scenic limestone karsts and ancient temples tell the stories of the Dinh and Le dynasties. Retreat to the peaceful Emeralda Tam Coc Resort for a leisurely lunch surrounded by Ninh Binh’s striking landscapes.

In the afternoon, glide through the tranquil waters of Thung Nang aboard a traditional sampan, then venture off the beaten path on an open-air jeep tour through rustic villages and lush rice paddies.

Return to the Vietnam Express for dinner.

Day 6 | Ha Long Bay

This morning, depart for enchanting Ha Long Bay and board your private cruise. Sail across the emerald waters of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, then venture off the main route into the quiet beauty of Bai Tu Long Bay. Enjoy a gourmet lunch on board.

In the afternoon, visit Vung Vieng, a traditional floating village, with the option to kayak, take a guided rowing boat, or simply relax on deck. Later, arrive at Hon Co Island to explore the hidden Thien Canh Son cave or continue cruising as the sun sets over the bay.

Day 7 | Hanoi

This morning, head to Ha Long Bay and board your private cruise. Sail through emerald waters and into the quieter Bai Tu Long Bay, enjoying a gourmet lunch on board.

Visit Vung Vieng floating village with options to kayak, take a guided boat ride, or relax on deck. Later, stop at Hon Co Island to explore Thien Canh Son cave or keep cruising as the sun sets.

Day 8 | Guilin

This morning, wake up for the first time aboard the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express and enjoy breakfast before arriving in Guilin — a breathtaking haven of landscapes reminiscent of traditional Chinese scroll paintings.

Cruise the Lijiang River from Guilin to Yangshuo, passing misty valleys, jagged peaks and mirror-like waters. As evening falls, board an exclusive fishing boat for a peaceful sunset voyage and watch the ancient art of cormorant fishing — a memorable end to the day.

Day 9 | Guangzhou

Today, discover Guangzhou’s culinary and cultural gems, starting with an exquisite dim sum experience that highlights the city’s rich gastronomic heritage.

Afterwards, stroll through the historic Shamian District, with its colonial architecture and tree-lined streets, then explore Yongqing Fang Square — a revitalised hub where traditional Lingnan buildings now host cafes, artisan shops and galleries. Wander at your own pace before reboarding the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express for lunch and time at leisure.

Day 10 | Jingdezhen

Begin your day in Jingdezhen, China’s legendary porcelain capital, with a visit to the Jingdezhen Chinese Ceramic Museum — showcasing over 2,000 years of ceramic artistry. Explore Song dynasty celadons and Ming vases as expert guides share stories of emperors and artisans.

Continue to the Ancient Kilns & Folk Customs Expo Area, where centuries-old dragon kilns still operate. Here, work alongside master potters and create your own ceramic piece using traditional techniques.

In the afternoon, rejoin the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express for your journey to Yichang.

Day 11 | Wuyi Mountains

This morning, your train arrives in the breathtaking Wuyi Mountains. For those who wish, start the day with an optional Jiuqu River experience — gliding along its winding course on a traditional bamboo raft, surrounded by lush forest and soaring cliffs in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the afternoon, explore Wuyi’s most prized export with the Wuyi Mountain Tea Culture Experience. Visit a renowned tea estate to learn the art of cultivating oolong tea, including the famous Da Hong Pao, and enjoy a guided tasting.

This evening, return to the train for a memorable farewell dinner aboard the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express — a fitting celebration of your journey.

Day 12 | Shanghai

After a leisurely morning and lunch aboard the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express, begin your Shanghai adventure at the iconic Shanghai Tower—China’s tallest skyscraper. Enjoy an unforgettable afternoon tea on the 120th floor, at the J Hotel’s celestial lounge, sipping rare teas and sampling local-flavoured pastries while taking in breathtaking views.

As evening falls, board a luxurious private yacht for an evening cruise along the Huangpu River, drifting past the illuminated Shanghai skyline. As city lights shimmer on the water, enjoy a bespoke dinner blending Shanghainese flair with international cuisine, perfectly paired with fine wines.

Day 13 | Shanghai

This morning offers an optional visit to Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, known as the “Venice of the East.” Enjoy a peaceful sculling boat ride through canals lined with stone bridges and ancient homes, while your guide shares its 1,700-year history. Stroll cobbled streets to discover shops, teahouses, and landmarks like Fangsheng Bridge.

For those interested in Shanghai’s cuisine, join an exclusive cooking class. With a local chef, visit a bustling market to choose fresh ingredients, then prepare iconic dishes like xiaolongbao in a private kitchen.
