Embark on a transformative journey of faith and discovery with this pilgrimage to the sacred shrines of Portugal and Spain.

Accompanied by Father Tony Dunn and escorted by the experienced guide Margaret de Haast, this pilgrimage promises an enriching exploration of spiritual heritage and cultural treasures.

Itinerary

Tuesday 10th September

Depart Auckland 8:30pm for Lisbon via Dubai.

Wednesday 11th September

Arrive in Portugal, transfer from Lisbon Airport to Fatima (approx 1hr 30m).

Depending on our arrival time, we may have the opportunity for a visit to Santarém en route from Lisbon.

In Santarém, we’ll explore the Sanctuary of the Eucharistic Miracle of Santarém , a sacred site steeped in history and spiritual significance. We’ll visit the Church of the Holy Miracle, the nearby house which has been a chapel since 1684, where the first Major Miracle occurred on February 16, 1247. We’ll also have the opportunity to view the Miraculous Host displayed above the Altar in the rear of the Sanctuary/Church.

Dinner at Hotel 7:30-8:30pm

Thursday 12th September

Start your day with breakfast at the hotel before boarding the coach for a visit to the Parish Church of Fátima. Afterward, we’ll visit the Cemetery located across from the Church, where the three Visionaries were originally buried, and where some of their family members rest to this day.

Next, we’ll explore the birth house of Saints Francisco and Jacinta Marto, followed by a brief stroll to Sr. Lucia’s house. Our pilgrimage continues with visits to the Monument of Our Lady, the Angel of Peace Apparition site, the Hungarian Calvary, and the St. Stephen Chapel (Valinhos) for outdoor Stations of the Cross.

Returning to the hotel for lunch, you’ll have the afternoon free to explore the local area at your leisure, and reflect on your morning’s spiritual journey.

In the evening enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Friday 13th September

Following breakfast at the hotel, join us for a guided tour of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, where you’ll have the privilege of attending a private Mass.

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of devotion and reverence as you tour the sanctuary’s grounds, before exploring the sacred site of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima and pay homage at the tombs of the three Visionaries.

During your visit you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the Museum of the Shrine of Fátima.

After a morning of reflection and exploration, you’ll return to the hotel for lunch.

Spend the afternoon at your leisure, exploring the local area and reflecting on the day’s spiritual journey.

In the evening enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Saturday 14th September

Enjoy Breakfast at the Hotel. With the possibility of an early mass before departure.

Board the coach towards Santiago de Compostela, Spain, an approximate 6 hour journey.

Sunday 15th September

Start your day with breakfast at the hotel, then join us for a guided tour of Santiago, immersing yourself in the rich history and vibrant atmosphere of this historic city. Our journey will culminate at the awe-inspiring St. James Basilica, where you’ll have the opportunity to attend Mass at the main Altar in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, a deeply moving experience for pilgrims from around the world.

Afterward, find a local establishment to enjoy a leisurely lunch, savouring the flavours of traditional Galician cuisine.

The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace, or spend in reflection.

Enjoy dinner in the evening at the hotel.

Monday 16th September

Following breakfast board to coach to travel to Covodonga an approximate 5hr 30min journey.

We will attempt to celebrate late mass on arrival in Covadonga.

Enjoy your evening meal at the hotel.

Tuesday 17th September

After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a journey to the Sanctuary at Covadonga, a sacred site dedicated to Our Lady of Covadonga, revered for its spiritual significance and role as a place of pilgrimage.

Following your visit to Covadonga, we’ll continue our pilgrimage with a transfer to Garabandal, a tranquil village nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of northern Spain. The journey will take approximately two hours, allowing you time to reflect and prepare for the spiritual experiences ahead.

Upon arrival in Garabandal, we’ll visit the Sanctuary, immersing ourselves in the serene atmosphere and embracing the profound spirituality of this sacred site.

Wednesday 18th September

After breakfast, embark on a journey to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, a revered pilgrimage site located amidst the breathtaking landscapes of northern Spain. This ancient monastery, steeped in history and tradition, is home to the Lignum Crucis, the largest surviving fragment of the True Cross, making it a place of profound significance for pilgrims and seekers of faith.

Take your time to explore the monastery grounds, marvelling at its architectural splendour and reflecting on the centuries of devotion that have shaped its spiritual legacy

After a day of spiritual discovery and reflection, return to the hotel for your evening meal.

Thursday 19th September

After breakfast at the hotel, board the coach for a scenic journey to Avila, a captivating medieval city renowned for its remarkably well-preserved walls, which encircle its historic center.

This journey will take approximately 5hrs 30mins.

Friday 20th September

After breakfast at the hotel, our first stop is the Carmelite Monastery of the Incarnation in Ávila. Founded in 1515, this convent is where Saint Teresa of Jesus spent twenty-nine years of her life, and where she became a nun. Saint John of the Cross, also spent some time here as a chaplain and confessor. Explore the monastery’s rich history as you discover Saint John of the Cross’ confessional box, Saint Teresa’s private cell in the Chapel of the Transverberation, and witness other valuable relics and manuscripts.

Our next destination is the St. Teresa Monastery and Museum, located at the church that marks the very birthplace of St. Teresa of Jesus. This site stands as a testament to her enduring legacy and spiritual influence.

Return to the hotel for your evening meal.

Saturday 21st September

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll board the coach for our approx. 1hr 30min journey to Segovia, where we will visit the tomb of St. John of the Cross at the Monastery of San Juan de la Cruz and celebrate a 10:30am Mass.

Continuing our pilgrimage, we’ll proceed to the Zaragoza area, with an estimated journey time of 5 hours. Along the way, we’ll make a stop in Agreda to visit the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception, where we will view the remains of Maria de Jesus de Agreda, displayed in a glass-top coffin within the convent.

We’ll complete our visit with a 3:00pm Mass, before travelling to our hotel.

Stay 1 Night

Sunday 22nd September

Begin the day with breakfast at the hotel.

Then we’ll gather for a 10:00am Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar.

Following Mass, enjoy a local lunch.

Our journey continues as we transfer to Barcelona, with an approximate travel time of 4 hours. Along the way, we’ll make a stop in Manresa, offering us a chance to explore this historic town.

Dinner will be served at the hotel in Barcelona.

Stay 2 Nights

Monday 23rd September

After breakfast, come together for a guided tour of the centre of Barcelona, which includes a visit to the iconic Sagrada Familia.

At 11:00 am, we’ll gather to celebrate Mass in the Crypt of the Sagrada Familia.

Following Mass, enjoy a leisurely lunch and free time to explore Barcelona at your own pace.

Enjoy your evening meal at the hotel.

Tuesday 24th September

Following breakfast at the hotel, our last day features a10:00 am Mass at Basilica by the Sea.

Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore Barcelona or prepare for your journey home.

Early evening we will transfer to the airport for a 7:00pm check-in and 9:00 pm departure to Auckland via Dubai.

Wednesday 25th September

Air travel, transfer through Dubai for Auckland.

Thursday 26th September

Arrive at Auckland International Airport at 9:50am.
